陆小凤（沈殿霞）与丈夫武则书（董骠）、儿子武德亮（曾志伟）在一栋旧楼底层经营一家薄饼店，一家人赚的虽是小钱，却难得合力齐心房地产代理商金大枝（秦沛）想盘下旧楼盖成高档商场，但薄饼店成为钉子户。武德亮送外卖的路上偶遇金大枝的表妹安娜（张曼玉），一见倾心。 陆小凤与武则书庆祝结婚三十周年时心脏病突发身亡，但因在阴间踩塌奈何桥没有死成，借刚巧发生车祸身亡的安娜身体重回阳间。由于不能说明自己就是陆小凤，她花费很多心思还是没能回到武则书身边，同时武德亮一直将她追求。这时，出现了一位同原本的她别无二致的楚小香（沈殿霞），而金大枝立誓要将薄饼店抢到手。
